I have bought or been given dozens of sippy cups for my kids. They come in all shapes and sizes, colors and patterns but the two things that they MUST BE are dishwasher safe and spill resistant. And I don’t mean when you tip it over it won’t leak. I mean when my kid gives the sippy cup a toss across the table it isn’t going to bust open and liquid goes everywhere.

Mother Knows Best

We stick to three different kinds of sippy cups in my house. But I know there are more out there than that so I asked other moms. I was surprised about which sippy cups they love. Plus they say they meet the dishwasher safe, spill resistant must haves. You might be surprised what parents use as sippy cups because I kind of was.

Buy These Sippy Cups

Don’t waste your money trying out other sippy cups. These are kid tested, mom approved.

Gerber Graduates Advance Developmental Insulated Cup Like Rim Sippy Cup

This sippy cup is my personal favorite. I always offer this cup first when switching from a bottle to a cup because it is spoutless. Spoutless cups, while harder to use, are better for their teeth in the long run. This cup has been tossed across the table and dropped to floor several times and not spills or breaks. The one negative is the the valve inside can get gross depending on what your kid is drinking and how long it stays in the cup. But I do put the valves in the dishwasher and they clean right up. This cup travels with us everywhere and we have never had a wet purse or diaper bag. It comes in a ton of different colors and patterns so your child can have the cup they want!

Gerber Graduates Fun Grips Spill Proof Cup

If my child can’t really grasp the concept of the rim-like Gerber cup right away, I offer this cup with the hard spout. I find the hard spouts are more spill proof than the soft ones and easier to clean. This cup also has a hourglass shape which helps it stay upright. Again, this one does have the value, but it is all dishwasher safe.

Munchkin Miracle 360 Sippy Cup

So many of the moms I asked about sippy cups raved about this particular one. After some research, I had to buy it! It is quite the unique cup and a lot of dentists recommend it because of its spoutless top. It really is a miracle that it is spill proof because it looks like the liquid would come right out the lid. Boy oh boy it does not! It is dishwasher safe with only three parts that come completely apart and are easy to place in the top rack of the dishwasher. A must have for your cabinet.

Munchkin Click Lock Bite Proof Sippy Cup

To my surprise, a lot of moms like this sippy cup. We had one of them when Capri was younger and she didn’t understand that you had to bite the spout before any liquids would come out. I think just teaching a child to drink from a cup is hard enough without adding the extra biting step. But if moms love them, I am putting them on this list! Dishwasher safe and spill proof because of the soft – must bite before sucking – spout. The lid also clicks letting you know it is locked in place this cup meets my two requirements. I would recommend purchasing them for an older sippy cup user.

NALGENE Tritan Grip-N-Gulp BPA-Free Water Bottle

I haven’t used this one but was really interested in it when a mom mentioned it to me. My daughter would probably use it once she gets to be “too old” for “baby sippy cups” (you know that stage!) It is sporty with extra grips on the slide. But the best part is that it is 12 ounces compared to these other cups which are usually 9 ounces. I always worry about bottles like this for drinks that smell, like orange juice, but this water bottle is odor, stain, and residue resistant. And it passed my must haves…dishwasher safe and spill proof.

The Secret Sippy Cup

Good2Grow Juice Bottles

If you haven’t noticed these cups in the store, you will now. I love the different tops for them and so do my kids. Plus, I just reuse the cup part until the tops don’t want to stay on anymore. I wash both parts in the dishwasher and they don’t spill! They are SO much cheaper to buy online, but getting a different topper might be easier to find in the store.

Have you used any of these cups? Did I miss your favorite? Tell me about it! I’d love to check it out.

The Choosy Mommy came to life as I began writing for the Choosy Kids ( blog from the mom perspective. We also have bloggers who are teachers, nutritionist, pediatricians, dental experts, etc. and I share my two cents on food choices, physical activity, and daily health routines plus so much more! I have a ton to share but didn’t want to take over the Choosy Kids blog so I decided it was best to grow The Choosy Mommy brand.

  1. I’ve been wanting to try those Good2Grow juice bottles, but they are super expensive in the stores. Now, I’m going to look online. I also just bought one of those Nalgene ones, so I’m happy to hear it’s a good one. It’s so hard to find ones that don’t leak!

  4. This information is gold! Can’t wait to try some of these new sippy cups. I feel like even if it says spill proof, my kids find a way to spill it. Haha

I know! My son has throw sippy cups straight to the ground during a fit and to my surprise, not one has busted open. And believe me, if it does, it goes right to the trash.

  5. Thanks! This is a great review for me right now as the ones I have bought seem to be overpriced and all leak! Great post

    • Christine - The Choosy Mommy

Oh no! Leaky sippy cups are the worst. Might as well consider that money straight to the trash!

  6. The Munchkin Miracle 360 Sippy Cup is the only sippy cup we used and loved. We have 2 left that we use when other cups are dirty but we love them. Never once did we have problems with leaks.

Lose their cups! Ugh! Now I really love thermos kid cups. It keeps their drink cold forever!

Great sippy suggestions!!! I learned years ago to just spend the extra dollar or two when it comes to cups! My hubby would buy cheap ones and I would always laugh at him when it ended up
    Leaking everywhere lol….

  13. This is fantastic! Wish I would have read it sooner as I have tried so many brands prior to finally finding one that you named above that actually didn’t link. Sharing this with my preggo SIL- thanks!

  18. WE LOVE those good 2 grow juice bottles too!

  19. The 360 cup is one of our FAVORITES!!! It was one of the first cups we introduced to my son, and it took him a little while to get the hang of it, but I absolutely LOVE the spoutless aspect of it. It makes my mom-brain a little less paranoid about mold haha
Thanks so much for sharing this awesome list!

  20. I” try to get some for my kids at home! My sippy cups at home are old and their colors are faded so that this is a nice chance for me to grab some of for my family. I’ll let them choose which color they love and buy for them! Thanks very much for sharing this!

    • Christine - The Choosy Mommy

I think when it comes to plastic cups, we have researched enough to have safe ones. Just watch for BPA free!
